Sustainable Kids Sustainable Future

The Boys & Girls Club of Fayetteville is committed to ensuring that our youth and families learn to value and manage natural/environmental resources and personal resources, and that our facilities and services are enjoyed by future generations. The Boys & Girls Club hopes to achieve these goals by providing a facility and programs which emulate this philosophy.
The Sustainable Kids Sustainable Future program provides hands-on experiential learning that promotes environmental awareness among children and educates youth and families in sustainable practices.
Youth involved in the Sustainable Kids Sustainable Future program will:
- Learn basic sustainable stewardship concepts such as:
- Reduce - Recycle - Reuse - Renew
- Develop and/or lead recycling efforts at the Boys & Girls Club
- Design, develop and maintain a community garden at the Club.
- Study the Club's facility design features which promote sustainable practices.
- Learn about national trends, ideas, and technology in sustainable practices.
- Monitor and document weather conditions at the Boys & Girls Club, which will be used for future technologies implemented at the Club (ie. Wind Power) .
- Take field trips to local area community gardens and facilities which incorporate sustainable programs and technology.
Consistent with Boys & Girls Club's charitable mission, the vision of the Sustainable Kids Sustainable Future program is to encourage youth and families, homes and businesses to work toward the same goals through what they see at the Club. Over the next few years, the Boys & Girls Club will be undergoing various facility enhancements to improve efficiency and sustainability within our facility. Our goal is for the youth at the club to learn as we move along in the process. They then will lead change in their families, schools, and workplaces.
The Sustainable Kids Sustainable Future program will initially be held during the summer Zing Program but will be expanded to our Club after school offerings. Watch for our Club brochures for dates and times.
